Communication Arts Program
This year the Foundation launches its campaign to raise funds for an
exciting new program aimed at improving students' communication skills
in areas such as public speaking, persuasive discourse, and research
presentation.
This communication arts program will utilize in-house video
technology to develop and enhance these universally applicable skills.
Fully integrated into all subject areas and supportive of district curriculum
goals, this program will meet the needs of all learners across the academic
spectrum and will incorporate age-appropriate educational components
at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
At the elementary schools, the communications arts program will provide
equipment that will enable our students to write and produce a morning
news show. The goal is to cultivate cognitive, organizational, and
communication skills through the video production process. In addition, each elementary school will be provided with a video conferencing cart that will enable teachers to bring real life experiences into the classroom.
At the middle school, skills will be further enhanced via the use of video
editing equipment and hand-held cameras for producing multi-part
newscasts and recording research presentations. Feedback from
teachers, fellow students and the presenters themselves will foster
improvement in the art of public speaking.
At the high school, as a capstone to the program, research and analytical
techniques will be combined with hands-on experience in an in-house
video editing studio as students explore planning, writing, managing,
editing, and producing news broadcasts, investigative reports, short
movies, fine arts performances, and sporting events.
